The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) appears to have intensified its efforts to crack down on online casinos operating in Australia in 2025. In April and May alone, ACMA reported over 70 online gambling sites to internet service providers (ISPs), which are then obliged to block access to them.

ACMA’s investigations into online gambling sites are triggered by user reports. Each month, the authority receives around 200 reported websites, most of which do indeed breach the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Since these sites operate offshore, ACMA can only issue warnings to their operators to cease activities—there are no real fines imposed. The more effective measure against these online casinos is ISP blocking, which is becoming increasingly common.
To date, ACMA has blocked over 1,200 sites, including the latest 70 casinos. Recent notable brands blocked by ACMA include MegaBet Prize, Mega Medusa, Leon Casino, WooCasino, CoinPoker, Crown Slots, Billy Billion, and Casino Intense.
Although ISP blocks help reduce visits to these online gambling sites, operators often migrate their websites to new domains and continue operations. This explains why ACMA’s blacklist includes multiple iterations of the same casinos—such as ThePokies1.net, ThePokies67.net, and others.
The Pokies.bet team recognises that ACMA must take steps to enforce compliance of international online casinos with Australian law. However, so far, there has been little meaningful change. Regulating online casinos directly would be a more proactive approach, although such discussions are not currently underway.
